Happy Loc anniversary Darina!!!

Q. How long have you been natural? Tell us about your journey.
I have been natural since I was born. My mother didn't believe in relaxing my hair, even on bad hair days.

Q. What products do you use on your hair. What is your hair regimen?
Mostly Jamaican Mango & Lime(JM&L) products. I've experimented with Murray's Black beeswax once. Usually I oil my scalp daily with Doo Gro Stimulating Growth Oil, Africa's Best Ultimate Herbal Oil, or JM&L "Sproil" Spray Oil. After I oil the scalp only I apply the JM&L Cactus Leave-In Moisturizer to the locs themselves for a bit of shine before styling. My locs are twisted biweekly by my usual loctician or myself. They're washed biweekly with anti-dandruff shampoo the day before re-twist and no conditioner is used immediately after the shampoo.

Q. What do you love most about your hair? What's the biggest challenge?
I love the knots of course, haha. It amazes me how each strand can intertwine with such curiosity to form such beautiful locked hair. There were times when I didn't think my hair would lock because of it's texture and I thought it didn't look right so I hid it under a cap at times.

Q. How has being natural and having locs affected you overall?‬Being natural has always been natural to me. Having locs gives me a sense of individuality and empowerment to go along with it. It has helped me understand that people aren't conditioned by the outside, yet my locs are a reflection of my true heart, sturdy, versatile, and limitless.

Q. What would you tell someone who wants to loc their hair?
Be patient. Don't listen to negativity. Joy is nothing without a bad day, so expect them. Q. Anything else you'd like to share with the readers?Growing locs for whatever reason truly is a journey. You may start out thinking you want locs as a fashion statement and as people see you transitioning comments will be made. Not all good, not all bad. Your reaction may alter your perception and path. This is why being a dreadhead is a lifestyle. This is why we're versatile and distinct. Good luck on your loc path.
